This poem talks about a happy day in nature. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and the children are playing on the green grass. Old people sit under a tree and watch the children, remembering how they used to play when they were young. As the day ends, the children get tired and go home. The green becomes quiet again. The poem shows the joy of childhood and the peace of nature.

    Answer: The two birds mentioned in the poem are the skylark and the thrush.
  • (b) Who is sitting under the oak?
    Answer:
    Old John and the other old men are sitting under the oak.
  • (c) Pick out an expression from the poem to show that the old men are happy to see the children playing.
    Answer:
    The expression is “They laugh at our play.”
  • (d) What do the children do when evening descends?
    Answer:
    When evening descends, the children become tired and return to rest.

Fill in the blanks with the words given below:

Answer: My favourite sport is Cricket. I love it because it keeps me active, builds teamwork, and is very exciting to play and watch. Every match is different, and I enjoy playing with my friends during the weekends.

Write a short rhyme expressing your love for nature:

Answer:

The trees that sway, the birds that sing,
The flowers bloom in early spring.
The rivers flow, the sky so blue,
Nature’s gift is pure and true.
